Kid’s Corner

{Week 3: Math}

Activity: Petal Counting
Lesson by Annie

Theme: Blooming Days    Color: Purple

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.       ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice counting petals while creating blooming flowers!

Materials:
  • Construction Paper
  • Scissors
  • Markers
  • Glue

 Directions:

  1. Cut out three or four 1-2 inch circles and glue them to a piece of paper.
  2. With a green marker, draw stems and leaves connecting to the petals.
  3. Write numbers in the center of the circles 3, 6, 9 etc.
  4.  Cutout the petals of the total amount of numbers you have listed {3+6+9= 18 petal}.
  5. Have your child read one number at a time, then count out the same number in petals and have them glue the petals to the flower.  Continue this activity until all flowers have bloomed. Happy Counting!

      Learning Opportunity: 
1.             Your child will learn how to say the numerical number shown.
2.            Your child will learn how to count out petals to the matching number.
3.            Your child will learn how to create a mathematical “blooming flower.”

I'm a Little Seedling
I love Spring
I need sun and watering

I'll be a blooming flower

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  1, 2, 3, 4, 5... There's nothing more warming then your child counting and saying their ABC's on top of all the other heartfelt things they do. This was a fun activity, Stallone loved to count out the petals, but when we did get to 9 he did need a little assistance, for he had glue on his fingers from the previous flowers. I think next time we will just count out all the flowers then glue on all the petals. We will definitely be doing this activity again!!
