                       Activity: ABC’s Writing

Daily Opener:  

1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}

3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice their ABC’s while reciting and writing out each letter in the alphabet while praising them for a job well done!

Materials:

• A Piece of Construction Paper
• Black Marker
• Any Color of Tempura Paint {preferably red}
• Paper Plate
• Q-Tip

Directions:

1. On the blank piece of paper, write out the Alphabet in all capital letters.

2. Recite the alphabet, then have your child practice reciting the alphabet on their own.

3. Place a small amount of paint on the paper plate and have your child dip one end of the Q-Tip in the paint then tracing over the first letter in the alphabet. Once the letter is done continue until all letters have been traced.

4.  This is a self esteem lesson, so be sure to praise your child throughout the lesson for a job well done! Let’s keep their confidence up!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will practice reciting the alphabet.

2.            Your child will practice their handwriting skills.

3.            Your child will gain confidence in participating in this activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: What a great activity! Stallone loved tracing the letters using a Q-Tip and paint! Very easy and simple way to teach the letters and handwriting. I thought next time I would do this lesson with his name, so he would get practice writing his name! Yay for Creative Minds!

Activity: Sunny the Happy Sun

Daily Opener:

Description:  Your child will talk and learn about various emotions while creating Sunny the Happy Sun.

Materials:

Paper plate

Yellow Tissue paper

Yellow Paint

Black construction paper

Scissors/Glue

Directions:

1. Talk about the word “Emotion” with your child. Discuss how our emotions can make a person feel: happy, sad, scared, nervous, excited etc. Give examples. Ask your child how they may be feeling at the time? Talk about an emotion your child may most likely feel?

2. Create Sunny the “happy” sun. Using a paper plate and yellow paint, have your child paint one side of the entire plate yellow {see picture}.

3. While paint is drying, cut out of black construction paper a “happy” smile big enough to fit in the center of your plate and cut out two eyes for above the smile.  Cut out medium size rectangles out of the yellow tissue paper enough to glue around the entire plate.

4. Once paint is dry, glue on rectangles around the plate {see picture}, glue on “happy” smile and eyes on the center of the painted side. Your Sunny, the “happy” sun, should be complete!

5. Praise your child for a job well done and be sure to let them know that like Sunny, you LOVE TO SEE THEM SMILE and be HAPPY! It’s their best emotion!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn the word “emotion” and characteristics to the feeling.

2.            Your child will learn how to make a “happy” sun.

3.            Your child will gain confidence in participating in this activity.

Activity: Straw Painting

Daily Opener:

Description:  Your child will create an art piece with straw blowing paint while being praised with self esteem.

Materials:

• Any type of kid friendly paint
• Construction paper
• Straw

Directions:

1. Place small amounts of paints on your choice of colored construction paper.
2.       Demonstrate to your child, how you can blow through a straw over the paint and create “blow art,” the paint will create a beautiful “splattered” look.
3.       Your child’s turn! Let them blow the air through the straw over the paint to create their “masterpiece!” Praise them for what a great job they are doing, this creates “self esteem” within your child!
4.      When finished, let it dry for about an hour. Write your child’s name and age on the back, and hang up for your child and the family to observe throughout the weeks!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will be praised for their great work as they participate in their art activity.

2.            Your child will learn how to create an art piece by using their breath.

3.            Your child will gain confidence participating in this activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: Paint, paint, and paint everywhere! What a great activity, Stallone loved using a straw and his breath to create a stunning art piece! He was so proud of the finish product he had to show the entire family, grandparents included! Stallone was praised over and over for what a great job he was doing, his remark, “Thanks Mommy!”

Daily Opener:

Description:  Your child will participate in making their own personal blooming flower, then performing a flower skit for their family.

Materials:

• A Paper Plate {one plate per child}
• Crayons/Markers
• Tissue Paper {Optional}
• Glue
• Scissors
• String

Directions:

1.       Cut out the center of your paper plate.

2.    Let your child decorate around the edge with crayons, markers, or tissue paper.

3.    Fringe the edges of the flower with scissors.

4.   Optional, poke two tiny holes and string through creating a mask for your child to wear.

5.    Recite the Read Aloud poem below, while your child holds up their new blooming flower mask. Shower your child with compliments as he or she performs for you building their self esteem!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn how to create a paper plate flower.

2.            Your child will learn how to wear a blooming paper plate mask.

3.            Your child will gain self esteem while wearing their new flower.

Daily Opener:

3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will learn special qualities that they poses by creating their very own Springtime flower.

Materials:

• Construction Paper
• Sharpe
• Scissors
• Glue

Directions:

1.              Have your child pick out his/her favorite color of construction paper.

2.             Cut out 12 or more large flower petals, big enough to write a phrase on each one. Two pieces of paper will need to be used.

3.       Using brown construction paper, cut out two medium-size circles, this will be the center of the flower.

4.            Glue one of the circles in the center of a white piece of paper.

5.             With child, glue petals around the brown circle creating your child’s personal Springtime Flower, then glue the remaining brown circle over the first brown circle.

6.            Write your child’s name in the center of your brown circle. On each petal, write a special quality about your child {I have green eyes or I am a happy child}.

7.             Read to your child all their finished work, and hang up somewhere for them to enjoy and show their loved ones!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn several special qualities that they instill.

2.            Your child will learn how to create a beautiful Springtime Flower.

3.            Your child will gain self-esteem by completing this activity.
