Activity: Learning The Star Spangled Banner by Briana

Theme: Patriotic Days         Color: Blue

Daily Opener:  

1.    Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}

3.        ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice their coordination skills by waving the American flag to “The Star Spangled Banner.” 

Materials:

·          Small American Flag

·         “The Star Spangled Banner” {lyrics provided below}

Directions:

1.           Demonstrate to your child how to wave the flag. 

2.          Teach your child the lyrics to our National Anthem, “The Star Spangled Banner.”

3.          While you and your child sing, “The Star Spangled Banner,” have your child wave the flag around to practice his/her coordination.

Learning Opportunity: 

1.   Your child will practice his/her coordination while waving the American flag and singing.

2.  Your child will learn the words to “The Star Spangled Banner.”

3.   Your child will gain confidence while completing the activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone had a great time learning the lyrics to “The Star Spangled Banner.”  We enjoyed singing together and waving the  American flag.  Stallone had a smile on his face today, as today’s lesson was really fun and interactive!

{Week 2: Coordination}

Activity: Noodle Fun by Briana

Theme: Blooming Days         Color: Purple

Daily Opener:  

1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}

3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice their fine motor skills by completing a fun task using a strainer and noodles.

Materials:

·         Strainer

·         Spaghetti noodles or pipe cleaners

Directions:

1. Place the strainer up-side-down on a table. 
2. Place the spaghetti noodles or pipe cleaners on the table. 
3. Demonstrate how to put the noodles in holes of the strainer.
4. Have your child place as many noodles as they can in the holes of the strainer.
5. It may take a few times for your child to get the hang of it. 
6. Remember to praise your child as they are working on the activity to build their self esteem.
7. When finished, congratulate your child on a job well done!
8. Note:  I got this activity from my friend who teaches preschool.  This activity is great for your child to practice their fine motor skills.  Fine motor skills are important for your child to develop as they help your child strengthen his/her ability to use utensils, a pencil, scissors, and other important tasks.

2. Your child will practice their fine motor skills.
3. Your child will gain confidence while completing the activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone loved playing the noodle activity today.  He had a blast learning how to place the spaghetti noodles into the strainer holes.  Some of the spaghetti would break as he tried putting them into the holes, but that was okay.  He soon got the hang of it, and was having so much fun.  Tomorrow we are going to do the same activity but with pipe cleaners.  Stallone loved this lesson today!

Activity: Scissor Practice by Briana

Theme: Blooming Days         Color: Purple

Daily Opener:

3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice their scissor skills by cutting out various shapes.

Materials:

·         Scrap pieces of colorful paper

·         Scissors

·         Pen

·         White piece of paper

·         Tape or glue

Directions:

1. Using the pen, draw a few different simple shapes on different pieces of paper.
2. Example: Square / Circle / Rectangle / Triangle
3. Using the pen, draw a few zig-zag lines on a piece of paper.
4. Use a piece of tape, tape the ends of the six clothes pins.
5. Place the pieces of paper on the table.
6. Have your child practice their scissor skills, but cutting out the various shapes and lines.
7. Once they have cut out the shapes, have your child tape or glue the shapes on a white piece of paper.
8. At the bottom of the paper, write your child’s name, the date, and the words “scissor practice.”
9. When you are finished, praise your child for a job well done.  Next, hang the finished piece on the wall for display!

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone loved using his scissors today.  This activity helped him learn how to hold his scissors for a proper cut.  He enjoyed cutting out the circle and the zig-zag lines.  We will definitely practice this lesson on a weekly basis to continue to improve his scissor skills!

Activity: Bunny Hop by Briana

Theme: Easter          Color: Grey

Daily Opener:

Description:  Your child will practice their coordination while learning to hop.

Materials:

·         2 cotton balls

·         Tape

Directions:

1. Tape the cotton ball to the back of you and your child’s shirt.  Now you both have a bunny tail.
2. Demonstrate to your child how to hop.
3. Once you and your child practice hopping, you can try and grab each others cotton tail.  This activity will bring lots of fun and laughs!
4. You can even sing the poem provided in this lesson, as you hop.
5. This is a great activity to play outdoors! 

Learning Opportunity: 

1. Your child will learn the word “Hop.”
2. Your child will practice their coordination while learning to hop.
3. Your child will gain confidence by improving their coordination.

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone liked hoping around for the lesson today!  He was smiling and giggling the whole time.  We sang “The Bunny Hop” poem as we hopped around and had a blast.  This is a great lesson to practice to help develop your child’s coordination.

Activity: Shamrock Hopscotch by Briana

Theme: Saint Patrick’s Day          Color: Green

Daily Opener:

Description:  Your child will learn to hop by participating in the activity Shamrock Hopscotch.

Materials:

·         Green and white chalk

·         Sidewalk

Directions:

1. Using the green chalk, draw five squares to form hopscotch:
1. Draw two squares, vertically.
2. Next, draw two squares {side-by-side}
3. Finally, draw one square on top of the two side-by-side squares.
2. Using the white chalk, label each square with a number. {Number 1 -5}
3. In each square, draw a shamrock around each number, to make it shamrock hopscotch.
4. Next, demonstrate how to play hopscotch by jumping in each square.
1. You can make up a pattern for your child to model.
2. You can have your child say each number, as they jump on each square.
5. Play a few rounds of Shamrock Hopscotch with your child.  
6. Be sure to compliment and praise your child as they play, to build their confidence and self-esteem. 

Learning Opportunity: 

1. Your child will practice jumping and develop their coordination skills.
2. Your child will learn how to play hopscotch.
3. Your child will gain confidence and self-esteem by learning a new activity.

Activity:  Valentine Dance & Snap {Lesson by Briana} 

Description:  Your child will practice coordination by dancing and snapping to a valentine’s song.

Materials:

·         Song “L-O-V-E” by Nat King Cole

Directions:

1. Before playing the music, show your child how to snap.
2. Have your child practice snapping with you.
3. Play the song “L-O-V-E.”
4. While the song is playing, begin moving side to side.
5. Have your child copy your movements.
6. Teach your child how to snap while moving as well.
7. Have fun while dancing to the song. 
8. Praise your child as you dance, and tell them what a great job they are doing!
9. Play the song a few times and dance away! 

Learning Opportunity: 

1. Your child will practice coordination by dancing to the music.
2. Your child will practice snapping to the music.
3. Your child will gain confidence by improving coordination.

Stallone had a wonderful time dancing to the song "L-O-V-E."  He followed Annie's movements and he even was excited to see how she snapped.  He was moving his hands and seeing what snapping looked like.  He had a blast practicing his coordination!
