{Week 2: Nutrition}
Activity: Carrots by Briana
Theme: Easter Color: Grey

Daily Opener:
- Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
- Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
- ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.
Description: Your child will learn some nutrition facts about carrots.
Materials:
· 1 paper plate
· 1 piece of white paper
· 3 index cards
· scissors
· orange and green crayon or marker
· Tape
· Pen
Directions:
- Help your child during the activity while they practice using scissors and drawing.
- Write the word “Carrot” at the top of the blank paper, and the word “Vitamin A” at the bottom of the blank paper.
- Write three important facts about Vitamin A on each individual index cards:
- Helps you see.
- Helps you see at night.
- Helps you see in color.
- Draw an outline of a carrot on the paper plate.
- Have your child color in the plate to make a carrot.
- Have your child tape the carrot on the center of the white paper.
- Have your child tape the three index cards at the bottom of the white paper.
- When you are all finished discuss the lesson with your child:
- Discuss with your child that Carrots have Vitamin A in them.
- Discuss with your child the importance of Vitamin A in Carrots. Talk about each index card with your child.
- As you are talking, have your child repeat some key words such as “carrots” “vitamin A” “see” and “eyes.”
- When you finish with the lesson put the finished piece on a wall in your home.
- Optional: Make a carrot recipe such as “Roasted Carrots.”
- Roasted Carrots Recipe:
- Place a bag of carrots in a bowl. Add some olive oil, salt, and pepper to taste. Mix well. Place carrots on a cookie sheet lined with foil. Place in a preheated 400 degree oven for about 15 minutes. Enjoy!
Learning Opportunity :
- Your child will learn some import facts about vitamin A.
- Your child will practice learning new words.
- Your child will practice using scissors and drawing.
- Your child will gain confidence by completing the activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: Stallone liked the nutrition lesson today. He loves learning about vegetables. He had a fun time making the carrot today out of the paper plate. After the lesson he would say “eyes” and “carrots” a lot. We made the deliciously easy carrot recipe today to add to our lunch, and he really loved them. This is a fun lesson to help teach your child about nutritious foods!
