Kid’s Corner

{Week 5: Cooking}

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.

Activity:  Heart Shaped Fruit {Lesson by Briana} 

Description:  Your child will learn the names of different types of fruit and arrange them into a heart shape.

Materials:
·       Assorted Fruit {Cut into small pieces}
·       Paper Plate
·       Index Cards
·       Bowl
·       Pen

Directions:
  1. Place the cut-up fruit into a bowl.
  2. Write the names of each type of fruit on an index card.
  3. Trace a heart with the pen onto the paper plate.
  4. Have your child point to an index card.  Tell them the name of the fruit.  Spell out the word, and use the word in a sentence.
    1. Example:  “Strawberry”  “S-T-R-A-W-B-E-R-R-Y”  “A strawberry is delicious!”
  5. Have your child point to the fruit that matches the index card.
  6. Repeat step four and five until all fruit has been identified.
  7.  On the paper plate, have your child arrange the fruit inside the heart shape. 
  8. After the heart is filled with fruit, say the name of each fruit and have your child point to the fruit.
  9. When you are finished, enjoy the delicious fruit as a healthy snack!
Learning Opportunity: 
  1. Your child will learn how to identify, spell, and pronounce a variety of fruit.
  2. Your child will practice sorting and arranging objects.
  3. Your child will gain confidence by learning new words, and creating a beautiful fruit platter.

Fruit is very tasty,
Fruit is very sweet,
Fruit is my favorite thing to eat!

Fruit is very colorful
Fruit is very bright,
Fruit is my favorite thing to eat…at night!

Fruit is very yummy
Fruit is a great treat,
Fruit is my favorite thing to eat!

Stallone loved the the lesson today!  He especially enjoyed making the strawberry heart.  He liked learning how to spell the word for each fruit.  His favorite part was being able to eat his creations! This is a great lesson to try with your children!
