                                             Kid’s Corner

{Week 4: Math}

Theme: Valentines Day          Color: Pink

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 
Activity:  Love Counting {Lesson by Annie} 

Description:  Children will practice counting numbers 1-5 while doing various movements to enrich their understanding.
{Numbers can vary, depending on your child’s knowledge}

Materials:
Construction paper
- Sharpe or pen
- Scissors

Directions:
     1. Cut out five medium hearts out of construction paper.
  1. Write the numbers 1-5, writing one number per card {Numbers will vary depending on your child’s knowledge}.
  2. Spread hearts around on a flat surface, numbers not showing.
  3. Have your child chose one heart at a time, turning the heart over to show the number. Whatever number it is, have child say number out loud and hold up his/her fingers to represent the number.
  4. Next, do a movement to represent the number. For instance, if you picked a number 2, give 2 “high fives,” or do 2 “jumps” etc. {Here is a list of movements: high fives, jumps, snapping, clapping, turning etc.}
  5. Repeat steps 2-5, until all numbers have been practiced.
  6. Have fun learning and moving!
Learning Opportunity
-Your child will learn the basics to numbers 1-5.
-Your child will practice various movements, working on their motor skills.
-Your child will practice listening and following directions.
-Your child will gain confidence while participating calling out the numbers and moving to sequence.


Read Aloud:  
Five Fat Peas
{A counting fingerplay especially useful in the Spring and Summer}

Five fat peas in a pod pressed
{children hold hand in a fist}
One grew, two grew, so did all the rest.
{put thumb and fingers up one by one}
They grew and grew
{raise hand in the air very slowly}
And did not stop,
Until one day
The pod went POP!

{children clap hands together}

Materials needed
Cut out five hearts
Cousin Ty came over to visit today, he loved the activity!
Hmmm, what number is under here?
The boys laughing to the Read Aloud today...they loved it!
