                                               Kid’s Corner

{Week 4: Opposites}

Theme: Valentines Day          Color: Pink

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 
Activity:  Memory Game: Opposites {Lesson by Annie} 

Description: Children will practice memorizing cards while learning basic “opposite” methods.

Materials:
-    Construction paper
-       Sharpe or pen
-       Markers/crayons
-       Scissors

Directions:
     1.     Cut out ten small cards, using construction paper, use all the same color.
         * Plain white computer paper  or index cards would work too.
  1. Write the following “opposites,” one word per card: HOT, COLD, TALL, SHORT, HAPPY, SAD, BIG, SMALL, WALK, and RUN.
  2. Draw a simple picture to represent each word next to the site word.
  3. Go over the cards with the child, pairing each opposite together.
  4. Turn cards over and spread them out on a surface, keeping them close together.
  5. With your child, play the game, “Memory.” As your child turns over a card say the word, and its opposite. Allow your child to try to find its “opposite. If the card is not found, turn both cards over, and allow the next player to play the game.
  6. When a pair is found, set them aside. When the game is over, play again. At the end of the activity, go over all opposites with child once more.
  7. Enjoy your handmade Memory game!!
Learning Opportunity
-Your child will learn the meaning of the word, opposite.
-Your child will learn various opposite words, while learning the game of Memory.
-Your child will practice concentrating, listening and following directions while playing the game.
-Your child will gain confidence while taking part in the fun Memory game.
