Kid’s Corner

{Week 3: Art}

Theme: Valentines Day          Color: Pink

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.
Activity:  Heart Banner {Lesson by Briana} 

Description:  Your child will learn how to say and spell the word “Love,” and make a heart banner.

Materials:
Pink and red construction paper
String or ribbon
Children’s scissors
Pink, red, & purple crayons or markers
Glitter {Optional}
Hole punch
 Tape or glue         
Sharpe or pen

Directions:
  1. Cut two hearts out of the pink construction paper.
  2. Cut two hearts out of the red construction paper.     
  3. Write a letter on each heart to spell “LOVE”.
  4. Have your child trace each letter and say each letter.
  5. Spell the word “LOVE” with your child and use it in a sentence.
  6. Have your child decorate and color each heart.
  7. Using the hole punch, make one hole on each end of each heart.  You will have two holes for each heart.
  8. Using string or ribbon, thread the string through each heart to create a banner.
  9. Tape the banner on your mantel or your child’s door to display their artwork!
Learning Opportunity
  1. Your child will learn how to say and spell the word Love.
  2. Your child will practice using the word Love in a sentence.
  3. Your child will practice using scissors by cutting out heart shapes.
  4. Your child will practice tracing letters and spelling the word love.
  5. Your child will gain confidence by learning a new word, and creating a banner.
Read Aloud:  
1 Corinthians 13:4-7 {New International Version}
4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud.
5 It does not dishonor others, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

Stallone loved this lesson today!  He had a blast decorating his hearts and learning the word Love.  He used Love in a sentence by telling Annie, "Mommy, I love you!" He was so proud to hang his banner up in his playroom today!  This lesson is a lot of fun.  Try it with your child today!
