Kid’s Corner

{Week 2: Music}

Theme: Valentines Day          Color: Pink

Daily Opener:  
1.                   Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.                  Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.                  ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.

Activity:  Heartfelt Tambourine  {Lesson by Annie} 


Description:  Your child will create a "heart-shaped" Tambourine while learning the different sounds of the instrument.

Materials:
2 Paper Plates
Markers/Crayons
* Red Tempura Paint
* Paint Brush
Scissors
Stapler/Glue Gun
Non Cooked Beans {Optional}

Directions:
1. Draw a heart on the inside of the one of the paper plates, big enough to take up the entire plate.
2. Put plates together, and cut out heart, creating two hearts.
3. With paint and brush  or markers/crayons  {your child could finger paint too} decorate heart{s}.
4. Once paint is dry, with your child, write the word "TAMBOURINE" on one side of the heart. Go over letters and meaning of the word. 
5. Staple the edges of the heart, leaving an opening to pour in the beans.
6. Pour in beans, staple opening shut. Cut three or four strips of streamers and staple at the bottom of the heart.
7. Enjoy your new "heart" tambourine for the holiday!


Learning Opportunity
  1. Your child will learn how to create a musical instrument.
  2. Your child will learn different sounds the tambourine makes, by shaking it either soft or hard.
  3. Your child will learn to play the tambourine to a song, either sung or played.
  4. Your child will gain confidence by sharing their tambourine with family and friends!

Read Aloud:

{can be sung to the tune of BINGO}

Each heart says I like you!
{Repeat}

Stallone loved the music lesson today!  He had such a fun time making his tambourine.  He really enjoyed painting and making noise with his finished instrument.  This is a great lesson!
