{Week 3: Coordination}

Daily Opener:
1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.
Activity : Potato Toss {Lesson created by Briana}
Description: Children will improve their motor skills by tossing a potato more accurately.
Materials:
Bag of small red or brown potatoes
Various buckets, baskets, or bowls
Directions:
1. Position the buckets, baskets or bowls in different spots outside. Be sure to place some buckets close by your child and some buckets further away to have a variety of distances.
2. Model or demonstrate to your child how to throw an object. Start with an underhand toss and if your child is ready, move to an overhand toss.
3. Have your child toss the potatoes into the different buckets, baskets, or bowls.
4. Demonstrate the throwing motion again {when necessary} to improve your child's coordination.
5. Remember to praise your child during the activity, to build self esteem and confidence.
Learning Opportunity : Science
1. Your child will learn how to throw an object from various distances.
Read Aloud:
Small Red Potato {By Briana}.
There was a small red potato,
Who loved to walk around,
Then one day he fell...onto the ground,
And a child took him to lost-and-found.
A teacher saw this small red potato,
And took him to her room,
Where she showed her kids,
and they smiled real big,
And they gave him a fluffy brown wig.
And this small red potato became their favorite class pet!
Daily Craft: Activity Jar : Painting with Potatoes
Materials:
Leftover Potatoes from above lesson
Paint and plates
Paint and plates
White Paper
Directions:
1. Cut the leftover potatoes in circles, triangles, rectangles, & squares.
2. Model Have your child dip the potatoes in the paint, and "sponge paint" or potato paint on the paper to create a fantastically creative painting.
3. When finished, hang the work of art on the wall, and be sure to write the date on the artwork for child to show to others.

Stallone really enjoyed the Potato Toss activity. He loved tossing the potatoes into the buckets. After he'd toss them, he'd go and give the potatoes kisses. It's his new thing; he loves giving hugs and kisses! We went over the characteristics of the potato: hard, red, rough texture, and it was a food. He would reply, "Yummy! Mmmm!" Great hands-on activity!
