  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.
Activity:  Portrait of Me {Lesson by Annie}

Description:  Children will create a self-portrait of themselves while learning 5 adjectives that describe their precious unique selves.

Materials:
-Markers/Crayons
-Construction Paper (various colors)
-White computer paper
-Paper plate
-Scissors
-Glue
-Ribbon (optional)
-Hole Punch (optional)

Directions:
1.  Using construction paper and markers/crayons, draw and cut out the following images that match your child’s features: hair, beanie (color of your choice), eyes, nose, mouth, and ear muffs (color of your choice).
2.  On the paper plate (this will resemble the child’s face), one-by-one glue on the hair, eyes, nose, mouth, beanie, and ear muffs while voicing each part as it is being glued on.                                                   3. Additionally, while voicing what each image is, ask child to point the item on themselves. For example, you could ask, "Green eyes, where are your eyes, how many eyes do you have?"
  -       4.  Cut out five word strips out of computer paper.
        5.  Once all the images are glued on the paper,  go over each attribute once more. Describe to child how we wear "beanies and ear muffs" when it is cold outside..on a "wintery day."
        6. Using the five cut out word strips, together come up with five adjectives that describe your child, right one word per card.
        7. Repeat new descriptive words about your child, adding how special and unique they are.
        8. Hang portrait and word strips on the wall/refrigerator for your child to see and learn for the days to come.
**It's optional how you hang up the portrait and words, we recommend hole punching and threading a string of ribbon attaching the words to the bottom of the portrait, see example below.

          Learning Opportunity:
-Repeat and point to the words throughout the week, so child becomes familiar with the thematic words.
-Continue to tell your child how special they are, and how each person is unique in their own little way.  Additionally, voice when they start school, they will be in class with a variety of different people, again, they will all be unique.
-Introduce ethnicity, talk about the your child's ethnic background, and the different backgrounds that make up the world.

Congratulations: You and your child finished the lesson for the day! What did you think about the lesson today, and what did your child learn?  We’d love to hear your thoughts!

*Stallone Tested and Approved: {We are so lucky to have Stallone, Annie’s son, test out all of our lessons that we create for you.  We want the lessons to be enjoyable for children, so after each lesson we will post how Stallone did with the lesson in italics under the title, Stallone Tested and Approved}:

Stallone really enjoyed this lesson today!  He had a great time making his portrait.  He enjoyed saying the words and seeing his finished product!  He had a big smile every time I told him what a great job he was doing! Great lesson!
I love doing any activities that boost my son's self esteem! In today's world, school-aged children are bullied and tormented on a daily basis.  To give my child the confidence now to stop bullying and stand up for what is right are values he will have forever.  Every person is a child of God, we were all made the way He wanted us to be made! Love thy self!
