{Week 1: Rhymes}

Daily Opener:
- Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
- Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
- ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.
Activity: Snow Rhymes Snowflake {Lesson by Briana}
Description: Children will learn what words rhyme with “snow.”
Materials:
- 2 pieces of construction paper white paper {one for you and one for your child}
- Scissors
- Blue construction paper
- Sharpe or pen
- tape
Directions:
- Cut seven rectangles out of the blue construction paper.
- Using a sharpe or pen write on one of the rectangles the word: SNOW
- For the other six rectangles write an underline then OW: ___OW {This will leave room for you and your child to write the rhyming words together}.
- Set rectangles aside.
- Make the white snowflake: Fold both pieces of white paper into quarters for you and your child. Demonstrate how to cut the edges and sides to make fun snowflake shapes. Have your child cut their white paper. Open up the paper to see what snowflakes you and your child made.
- Place the white snowflake on the table.
- Tape the word SNOW onto the center of snowflake. Have your child repeat and spell the word SNOW.
- Tell your child you will be making words that rhyme with SNOW.
- Lay out the blue rectangles next to the snowflake. Form six new words that will rhyme with SNOW by writing the letters on the underlined area.
o Examples: BOW FLOW CROW ELBOW SLOW THROW
- Have your child spell and repeat each new rhyming word. Then have your child tape the blue rectangles onto the ends of the snowflake.
- When finished, read each word together.
- Display the Snow Rhymes snowflake on a wall or window in your home. Your child will enjoy showing others what he/she made!
Learning Opportunity :
-Your child will learn how to spell and identify the word SNOW.
-Your child will identify how all of the words have the same –OW ending.
Your child will learn six new words that rhyme with SNOW.
-Your child will improve their motor skills by using scissors to cut.
-Your child will gain confidence as they learn new words.

Today's lesson was another success! Stallone had so much fun doing the lesson! Stallone was really cute, when we were rhyming different words with SNOW, he did say "THROW" right away! {Annie had a Proud Mommy Moment!} He also loved throwing the snowflake in the air and watching it fall to the ground! We also went over all the letters in the words a couple of times. I would point to the letter, and he'd tell me the letter. He can also pronounce "W" really well now!
Stallone also did an activity from the Activity Jar today! Stallone chose rock painting and he had a blast! During rock painting, Stallone discovered that he loved making imprints of his hand onto the paper! {Some activity jar photos are included below.}
