Kid’s Corner

{Week 4: Cooking}

Activity: Spring Strawberries by Briana

Theme: Easter          Color: Grey

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 
Description:  Your child will learn how to make chocolate covered strawberries.

Materials:
·         Strawberries {washed and pat dry}
·         Dipping Chocolate
·         Microwave safe bowl {For chocolate}
·         Sprinkles {optional}
·         Plate
·         Spoon

Directions:
  1. Set materials on the table.
  2. Pour some dipping chocolate into a bowl. 
  3. Have your child count how many chocolate pieces there are.
  4. Once you and your child have practiced counting, melt the chocolate in the microwave on thirty second intervals.  Be sure to stir in between to keep chocolate from burning.
  5. Now the fun part:  Have your child dip the strawberries into the chocolate.  Use the spoon to help cover the entire area.
  6. While the chocolate is still melted, have your child dip the coated strawberries into the sprinkles.
  7. When finished, lay the strawberries on a plate to cool.
  8. Before eating the strawberries, ask your child a few questions about what he/she made:
    1. How many strawberries do you see?
    2. What colors do you see on the sprinkled strawberries?
    3. Did you enjoy making them?
    4. What other fruit can we dip with chocolate?
  9. When finished, enjoy the strawberries for a fun springtime treat! 
Learning Opportunity
  1. Your child will learn how to make chocolate covered strawberries.
  2. Your child will practice their coordination while dipping the strawberries.
  3. Your child will practice their counting and observation skills.

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone was so excited to make his chocolate covered strawberries today!  He did great counting the chocolate pieces.  He had fun dipping the strawberries into the chocolate, and he kept saying “Strawberry…Yum!”  He liked telling us how many colors he could see on the sprinkled strawberries.  This is a fun and easy treat to make with your child, especially on a warm spring day!
