Kid’s Corner

{Week 3: Coordination}

Activity: Shamrock Hopscotch by Briana

Theme: Saint Patrick’s Day          Color: Green

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 
Description:  Your child will learn to hop by participating in the activity Shamrock Hopscotch.

Materials:
·         Green and white chalk
·         Sidewalk

Directions:
  1. Using the green chalk, draw five squares to form hopscotch:
    1. Draw two squares, vertically.
    2. Next, draw two squares {side-by-side}
    3. Finally, draw one square on top of the two side-by-side squares.
  2. Using the white chalk, label each square with a number. {Number 1 -5}
  3. In each square, draw a shamrock around each number, to make it shamrock hopscotch.
  4. Next, demonstrate how to play hopscotch by jumping in each square.
    1. You can make up a pattern for your child to model.
    2. You can have your child say each number, as they jump on each square.
  5. Play a few rounds of Shamrock Hopscotch with your child.  
  6. Be sure to compliment and praise your child as they play, to build their confidence and self-esteem. 
Learning Opportunity
  1. Your child will practice jumping and develop their coordination skills.
  2. Your child will learn how to play hopscotch.
  3. Your child will gain confidence and self-esteem by learning a new activity.

One, two, three…hop with me,
Four, five, six…jump and see, 

Seven, eight, nine…I’m doing fine,
Then there’s ten…watch me shine!

I’m playing Shamrock Hopscotch…in the sun,
Shamrock Hopscotch, its so much fun!
