Kid’s Corner

{Week 1: Science}

Theme: Saint Patrick’s Day          Color: Green

Daily Opener:  
  1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
  2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
  3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 
Activity: Rainbow {Lesson by Briana}

Description:  Your child will learn how to make the colors of the rainbow.

Materials:
·         Red, Yellow, & Blue paint
·         White construction paper
·         Six Paper Plates or bowls
·         Paint brush
·         Pen

Directions:
  1. Write the word “Rainbow” on the white construction paper.
  2. Draw and outline a rainbow with clouds for your child to paint.
  3. Discuss the colors of the rainbow. 
  4. Place six paper plates on the table.  Arrange small dab of paint on each plate as follows:
    1. Plate 1: Red paint  {Red}
    2. Plate 2: Red and yellow paint {Orange}
    3. Plate 3: Yellow {Yellow}
    4. Plate 4: Blue and yellow paint {Green}
    5. Plate 5: Blue paint {Blue}
    6. Plate 6: Blue and Red {Purple}
  5. Mix the paint colors together to create Orange, Green, & Purple colors.
  6. Explain how the colors are arranged on a rainbow.
  7. Have your child paint the colors on the construction paper to create a rainbow.
  8. Ask your child what colors make up Orange, Green, & Purple as you complete the lesson.
  9. Explain how rainbows are formed in the environment.
    1. Example:  When the sun comes out after a rain storm etc.
  10. When you are finished, have your child place his finished art piece on the wall! 
Learning Opportunity
  1. Your child will learn how to identify, spell, and pronounce the word “Rainbow” and the colors of the rainbow.
  2. Your child will learn how to make colors & practice their painting skills.
  3. Your child will gain confidence by learning new words and creating a beautiful piece of art.

Orange, orange, orange, leaves
Yellow, yellow sunshine,

Green green green grass,
Blue, blue, blue sky
Purple, purple mountains

All the colors of the rainbow,
Make the world glow bright!

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone loved learning about a rainbow, and how it is formed. He also got much pleasure out of mixing the colors to see the new colors that appear! with the help of Mommy, we were able to create his masterpiece..it proudly hangs on our refrigerator!
