Activity Turkey Counting {Lesson created by Briana}
(Turkey cup by: http://www.parents.com/holiday/thanksgiving/crafts/simple-thanksgiving-day-crafts/?page=8

Description:  Children observe how many marshmallows & grapes are in each turkey cup.

Materials:
            Clear plastic cup
            2 googly eye balls
            Glue or tape
            Marshmallows/grapes
Red, orange, yellow, green construction paper
            Scissors

Directions:
1.  Make the turkey cup:
2. Glue 2 googly eyes onto plastic cup. Cut-out a small triangle using yellow paper, and glue under eyes to make the beak.
3. Draw and cut-out one leaf to use as your template.  Cut-out one yellow leaf, one green leaf, one red leaf, and one orange leaf {four in all}.
4. Glue the four leaves to the back of the cup, to create your turkey feathers.
5. Now, place as many marshmallows as you would like inside the turkey cup, to have your child observe and count:
6. First, ask your child what they see inside the turkey cup: What color is it? What shape is it? What size is it?
7. Second, have child take out the marshmallows one-by-one and count as they go.
8.  Third, repeat using other items/objects such as grapes, raisins, or almonds.

Learning Opportunity: Science
1.  Your child will learn how to observe and talk about what they see.
2. Your child will learn how to count at a higher level or will practice their counting.  Maybe teach them one or two more numbers to challenge them today.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: {We are so lucky to have Stallone, Annie’s son, test out all of our lessons that we create for you.  We want the lessons to be enjoyable for children, so after each lesson we will post how Stallone did with the lesson in italics under the title, Stallone Tested and Approved}:

Today, Stallone & his friend Ella took part in the activity together.  They both loved participating!  Ella asked to make another turkey cup at least five times when they finished. She was really excited to show her Mom.  They both loved counting their marshmallows, then enjoyed eating them after! Yum! This was a fun,  festive, and delicious activity!
