Kid’s Corner

{Week 2: Music}

Theme: Thanksgiving               Color of the Month: Brown

Daily Opener:  

1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.                  Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.            ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.

Activity : Sounds of a Tambourine {Lesson created by Annie}



Description:   Children will be designing a tambourine, while learning the the different sounds made by the instrument. 

Materials:

1. Two Paper plates
2. Stapler (recommended) or Tape
3. 1/2 cup of uncooked beans or small noodles
4. Markers/Stickers
5. Streamers or Ribbon of some sort

Directions:

1. Have child decorate both bottoms of plates with markers/stickers.
2. Write on the plate, both sides, child's name and the word "TAMBOURINE."
3. Line plates up, with artwork on facing out, and staple/glue the outer edges around the circumference of the plate, leaving a small opening to pour the beans in.
4. Once the beans are in, staple/glue tambourine shut.
5. Staple steamers/ribbon on one side of the plate.
6. Enjoy your homemade tambourine, child will love to make music with it.

Learning Opportunity: Music

     1. Distinguish between loud and soft sounds.
     2. Go over letters on instrument, child can trace over each letter.
     3. Sing your favorite nursery rhyme using the instrument to enhance the beat of the song.

*Stallone Tested and Approved

Stallone had a fun time putting together his tambourine. He didn't quite understand why there was noodles and streamers out, but once we started to assemble it, he got really excited.  I will say, if you glue it, you will need to let it sit and dry for about 20 minutes before adding the beans/noodles. Stallone did not like that we had to wait to finish the project. Have a great time making music, Stallone ran p down the hallway hitting his tambourine! :)
