Kid’s Corner

{Week 3: Opposites}

Activity: Black and White Collage
Lesson by Annie

Theme: Blooming Days    Color: Purple

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will learn the meaning of "opposites" while making a black and white collage.

Materials:
  • Grey or Red Construction Paper
  • Black and White Items {Items that can be glued to the paper}
  • Glue
  • Sharpie


Directions:


1.  Fold a piece of grey {or red} construction paper in half. On one side write BLACK and on the other side write WHITE
2.  Explain to your child that you will be discussing the “opposite” of BLACK is WHITE, and that you will be sorting out black and white items into piles.
3.  Once all items are sorted out, have your child glue all the black items on the BLACK side and all the white items on the WHITE side. 
4.  Review the finished collage, pointing out all of the opposite items.
5.  Hang collage up and reflect on it throughout the week! Don’t forget to praise your little one for all the hard work they accomplished doing this lesson!

Learning Opportunity:
  1. Your child will learn the meaning of “opposite.”
  2. Your child will practice sorting opposite items.
  3. Your child will create a collage using opposite black and white items.

 {Point to top of head, then bottom of foot.}

{Make a happy face, then look sad.}
{Extend left arm, then right.}
{Point up and then down.}
{Shout and whisper.}
{Open and close fists.}
{Stand up and sit down.}
{Put your hands in your lap.}

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone enjoyed sorting the opposite color's of Black and White. He loved gluing them on the paper, especially the numbers. What a great and simple activity that you can do while introducing opposite colors! We will definitely do this one again!
