Kid’s Corner

{Week 3: Sorting}

Activity: Colorful Sorting
Lesson by Annie

Theme: Blooming Days    Color: Purple

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.       ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will learn how to sort various colorful triangles into their proper families. 

Materials:
  • Construction Paper
  • Muffin Tin
  • Scissors
  • Sharpie

Directions:
  1. Choose 4-5 colors to work with. With those colors cut one circle for each color, big enough to fit at the bottom of a muffin tin out of construction paper.
  2. Cut out 5 triangles per color.
  3. Write the names of the colors on five homemade word strips.
  4. Read aloud each word strip and have child trace each letter of the colors with their index finger.
  5. Place all triangles into a pile next to the muffin tray, have child sort all the colors together by placing all the triangles in its’ correct matching muffin tin. {You may have to only concentrate on 2 or 3 colors at a time, depending on your child’s knowledge. Happy sorting!! 

Learning Opportunity: 
1.             Your child will learn how to sort colors together.
2.            Your child will learn practice spelling the words of the colors.
3.            Your child will gain confidence in participating in this sort activity.

Flowers, flowers everywhere,
In the garden, in my hair.
In the vase, at the store,

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  What a fantastic activity! Stallone loved sorting the triangles. He sorted all the colors together, I learned I could of definitely added a few more colors. Great sorting activity!
