Kid’s Corner

{Week 1: Self Esteem}

Activity: Blooming Flower
Lesson by Annie

Theme: Blooming Days    Color: Purple

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.     ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will participate in making their own personal blooming flower, then performing a flower skit for their family.

Materials:
  • A Paper Plate {one plate per child}
  • Crayons/Markers
  • Tissue Paper {Optional}
  • Glue
  • Scissors
  • String

Directions:
1.       Cut out the center of your paper plate.
2.    Let your child decorate around the edge with crayons, markers, or tissue paper.
3.    Fringe the edges of the flower with scissors.
4.   Optional, poke two tiny holes and string through creating a mask for your child to wear.
5.    Recite the Read Aloud poem below, while your child holds up their new blooming flower mask. Shower your child with compliments as he or she performs for you building their self esteem!


Learning Opportunity: 
1.             Your child will learn how to create a paper plate flower.
2.            Your child will learn how to wear a blooming paper plate mask.
3.            Your child will gain self esteem while wearing their new flower.

Read Aloud: 
Flower
Flower, flower grow for me, 

Become a flower from a seed, 

Grow your roots and a stem, 

Let the water come right in


Flower, flower you are true, 

You make me happy when I am blue,

You did all that just for me

Cut out center of paper plate

Decorating plate

Concentrating really hard

Finished flower

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone had a great time decorating his blooming flower, especially gluing on the tissue and feathers. This was a fun activity to build your child's self esteem!
