Kid’s Corner

{Week 2: Phonics}

                         Activity: Letter F is for Feather
       
                                       Lesson by Annie


Theme: Halloween      Color: Black

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description: Your child will learn the letter F while completing a creative activity.

Materials:
  • Construction Paper
  • Feathers
  • Scissors
  • Glue


Directions:
1.   Cut out a large bold letter “F” out of a piece of construction paper.
2.  Have your child smear glue over the entire letter, then place feathers over the glue until entire letter is covered in feathers, F is for Feather.
3.   Feather facts to share with your child:
  • Birds are the only creature that wear feathers.
  • Enable a bird to fly.
  • Provide protection and balance.
  • Male birds have the most colorful feathers.

4.   Cut out a “word strip” and write the phrase: F is for Feather, attach to the bottom of the feathered letter F.
5.  Have child trace the letter “F” and the word “feather,” and practice saying the sound the letter F makes.


Learning Opportunity: 
1.             Your child will learn the letter F. and its’ phonemic sound.
2.            Your child will learn about feathers facts.
3.            Your child will have gained confidence in the alphabet while completing this activity.
