Description:  Once a week your child will be working on a “letter of the week” phonemic activity until the entire alphabet has been explored. This is the first week starting this CM tradition, so let’s kick it off with the “Letter A!”

Materials:
  • Apple
  • Fall Colored Tempura Paints {Orange, Yellow, Brown}
  • 2 Pieces of White Paper
  • 2 Paper Plates
  • Marker
  • Knife {to cut apple in half}

Directions:
1. Let your child study a whole apple by feeling it, smelling it, naming the color of it, and nnnnn. Teach your child that apples grow on trees, they are usually ready to be picked during the FALL season, they are good source of Vitamin A and C which make them a healthy snack to enjoy.
2. Apple Art. Cut the apple in half from stem to the sepal {bottom part of the apple}. Let your child explore the inner part of the apple, point out the seeds. Using the paint and the paper plate, put a small amount of all the colors of the paint onto the plate. Set aside.
3. Tape the two pieces of paper together making a larger size. Write a large letter A at the top and continue to write the letters {in lower case} p-p-l-e. Have your child trace with their index finger or a marker over the all the letters. Have them say the letter A, make the sound of the letter A, and say and use the word “apple” in a sentence.
4.  Using the paint and the sliced apples, have the child dip the apple into the paint and make apple prints on the rest of the paper. Use different colors to help represent the Fall season. Let them be artists..have fun with it!
5. When finished, review the lesson. Let artwork set to dry and then display somewhere in your house for your child to review in the upcoming days.
Learning Opportunity:
1.             Your child will explore and learn about the letter A.
2.            Your child will take part in an art activity all relating to the letter A.
3.            Your child will gain confidence in participating in this activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: It's great to be back doing activities for our Creative Mind's family! Stallone LOVED  singing the alphabet and learning all about the the letter "A" today! Exploring the good ol' "apple" was new to him,  for apples have always been quickly cut up and ate in our household. The stamping of the apple had to take muscles, but Stallone got the hang of it using two hands to pull up it from the wet paint. Great activity. we both hope your little ones enjoy this!
