{Week 2: Rhymes}

Activity: -an word family by Briana

Theme: Fall Days         Color: Orange

Daily Opener:  

1. Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2. Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3. ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}.

Description:  Your child will learn how to rhyme words with the –an word family.

Materials:

·         Green, Red, Orange, and Yellow Construction Paper

·         White Paper {Cut into six small squares}

·         Scissors

·         Black Marker

Directions:

1. Draw a leaf onto the construction paper. 
2. Cut out six leaves to use for the lesson.
3. Cut six small squares out of white paper to fit onto leaves.
4. Write the word family __an onto all six leaves.
5. Write the letters /r/f/p/m/t/c on the white squares.
6. Place the leaves and letters onto the table for your child to use.
7. Have your child place a letter onto a leaf to create a rhyming word.
8. For each leaf, define each word and use it in a sentence for your child to learn.
9. Once all the letters are onto the leaves, have your child say each word.
10. When finished, praise your child for a job well done!

Learning Opportunity: 

1. Your child will learn how to rhyme words with the –an word family.
2. Your child will learn new words while completing the activity.
3. Your child will gain confidence while completing the activity.

Fall is almost here,

The weather will change,

It will be windy and chilly,

The leaves will turn colors,

To yellow, orange, and red,

Fall is almost here,

There will be hot chocolate to sip,

And pumpkins all around,

It will be so pretty,

I can’t wait!

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone really likes learning new words.  He really liked this lesson today.  He had a blast placing the letters onto the leaves to create new rhyming words.  After the activity, he was saying the words throughout the afternoon.  We had a great time with the lesson today!

Draw a leaf then stack paper and cut-out.

Have your child place each letter onto a leaf to create a rhyming word.
