Kid’s Corner

{Week 2: Math}

Activity: Patriotic Noodle Necklace 

Lesson by Annie

Theme: Patriotic Days         Color: Blue

Daily Opener:  
1.             Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}
2.            Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.
3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will practice stringing noodles while making a symmetrical pattern necklace.

Materials:
Red, White, and Blue Markers
String
Noodles {Tubular pasta shapes}

Directions:
1. Color approximately 5 noodles red, 5 noodles white, and 5 noodles blue {you may want to color more depending on the size of the necklace}.
2.  Make a symmetrical pattern with the colored noodles, laying them out on the table before stringing.
3. Talk to your child about what a pattern is? Patterns are repeated decorative designs. We use them in mathematics to solve equations.
4.  One by one, have your child string the noodles onto the string creating their patriotic necklace. Let your child enjoy wearing the necklace displaying their proud work!
Learning Opportunity: 
1.             Your child will practice making a patriotic necklace while creating a pattern.
2.            Your child will learn concept of a simple pattern
3.            Your child will gain confidence in participating in this activity.

*Stallone Tested and Approved: Noodle necklaces rock! What a fun and inexpensive way to teach your child about patterns! Stallone loved to call out the colors once we decided on a simple pattern. It was very patriotic too coloring the noodles red, white {left as they were}, and blue! Definitely be doing this again!
