Daily Opener:

3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description: Your child will practice saying and spelling the Halloween word “Bat,” while completing a creative activity.

Materials:

• 3 Plastic or Stirofoam Cups
• Sharpie
• Construction Paper
• Drawing or a Photo of a Bat

Directions:

1.   Place 3 plastic cups on a table, write one letter on each cup to spell the word BAT.

2.  Cut out 15 squares of various shapes and sizes. On 5 squares write the letter B {using upper and lower case letters}. Repeat for A and T.

3.   Place all the squares on the table in front of the BAT cups. Be sure to mix them up.

4.   Have your child find each letter and place it in the cup.

5.  Ask your child how to spell BAT? Have your child point to the BAT picture and ask them questions about what they see {example: The bat is black, it has two wings..}.

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn the word BAT.

2.            Your child will practice saying, spelling, and learn facts about a bat.

3.            Your child will have gained confidence in the alphabet while completing this activity.

Stallone Tested & Approved: We did this activity a year ago, and boy what a year does. It was simple for Stallone, he was able to sort the letters right away. He had a little problem thinking the lower case "a" was a "p," but other than that easy! I had him name the shapes that the letters were written on as well..great activity!

                         Activity: Letter F is for Feather

Daily Opener:

Description: Your child will learn the letter F while completing a creative activity.

Materials:

• Construction Paper
• Feathers
• Scissors
• Glue

Directions:

1.   Cut out a large bold letter “F” out of a piece of construction paper.

2.  Have your child smear glue over the entire letter, then place feathers over the glue until entire letter is covered in feathers, F is for Feather.

3.   Feather facts to share with your child:

• Birds are the only creature that wear feathers.
• Enable a bird to fly.
• Provide protection and balance.
• Male birds have the most colorful feathers.

4.   Cut out a “word strip” and write the phrase: F is for Feather, attach to the bottom of the feathered letter F.

5.  Have child trace the letter “F” and the word “feather,” and practice saying the sound the letter F makes.

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn the letter F. and its’ phonemic sound.

2.            Your child will learn about feathers facts.

3.            Your child will have gained confidence in the alphabet while completing this activity.

                         Activity: Felt Jack-o’-Lantern

Daily Opener:

Description: Your child will create a jack-o’-lanterns out of felt pieces.

Materials:

• 3 Orange, 2 Black, 1 Green, and 1 Brown Felt Square
• Scissors

Directions:
1. Cut out three pumpkins {preferably different sizes} out of orange felt pieces.
2. Cut out three sets of eyes, noses, and mouths {preferably all different from each other} from black felt.
3. Cut out 6 leaves and three stems from green and brown felt.
4. With child:

• Place all pumpkins in a row.
• Sort together eyes, noses, mouths, stems, and leaves.
• Create first jack-o’-lantern, naming different pieces of the face.
• Allow child to create two more jack-o’-lanterns of their choice.                                                  

5. Child should practice counting the number of eyes, noses, and mouths and tell you the various colors they see. You can also create “happy” and “sad” pumpkins.

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will practice creating jack-o’-lanterns using felt and their imaginations.

2.            Your child will practice counting and recoginizing different colors of the pumpkins.
3.            Your child will have gained confidence in the alphabet while completing this activity.

Stallone Tested & Approved: This is a fun activity for any child! These pictures were taken a year ago, I love seeing how much my baby has grown, and my son still enjoys creating his jack-o'-lanterns! His faces have improved :) I kept the felt in a ziplock bag in my activity tot, and plan on using it throughout the month and in the future! The felt was purchased at Joanne's Fabric, it's super cheap! Try this out, let me know how your little ones liked it!

Description: Your child will create a jack-o’-lantern out of delicious ingredients to enjoy as a healthy snack.

Materials:

• English Muffin
• Pizza Sauce
• Cheese
• Olives

Directions:

1. Toast your English muffin.

2. Spread sauce on muffin.

3. Top with cheese, then microwave.

4. Create a jack-o’-lantern with olives on cheese.

5. Enjoy your yummy Halloween-themed snack!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn four new ingredients into making their yummy snack.

2.            Your child will practice making a jack-o’-lantern.

3.            Your child will have gained confidence in the alphabet while completing this activity.

Daily Opener:

Description: Your child will learn the letter E while completing a creative activity.

Materials:

• Paper Plate
• Grey Construction Paper
• Black Marker
• Grey Paint and Paint Brush
• Glue/Stapler
• Scissors

Directions:

1. Have child paint or finger paint the back of a paper plate grey, let  dry. Draw ears and a trunk from the construction paper and cut out. Together with your child, glue or staple ears and trunk to the plate. Draw eyes, nostrils, wrinkles etc. to make your elephant come to life!

2. Create a word strip, write, “E is for Elephant.” Have child trace with their finger the letter and the word Elephant. Practice the sound the letter E makes.

3. Elephant facts to share with your child:

• Elephants can live as long as eighty years
• The ears of a full-grown elephant are about five to six feet long and four feet wide. They flap them to keep cool.
• An elephant's trunk is actually part nose and part upper lip.
• They can also smell and pick up things with it.
• Elephants talk to each other by making sounds called "tummy rumbles."

4.  Walk around your house with your child pretending to be “elephants!” Put your arm in front of your mouth like a trunk and make some fun elephant noises..be LOUD and silly!

5.  Display your child’s E for Elephant artwork on the wall for the whole family to see and enjoy!

Learning Opportunity: 

1.             Your child will learn the letter E and fun facts about an elephant while completing this activity.

2.            Your child will practice the sound the letter E makes.

Stallone Tested & Approved: Stallone loved making his elephant today, but I would have to say the best part was running around the house and acting like "elephants!" I think any boy would! The lesson all tied together nicely, the book, "Elmer the Patchwork Elephant" was a favorite as well. I actually have "Elmer" the stuffed animal from a lesson I did back in college..that was fun having him out too! Great lesson, hope you enjoy it!
