{Week 4: Cooking}

Activity: Frozen Bananas by Briana

Daily Opener:  

1.       Prayer {Say a prayer with your child}

2.      Calendar {Click on the link to learn how to use the calendar}.

3.      ABC / 123 Song {Sing the ABC’s with your child & sing numbers 1-10 with your child}. 

Description:  Your child will learn how to make frozen bananas for a summer treat.

Materials:

·          Bananas {Sliced}

·          Dipping Chocolate

·         Microwave safe bowl {For chocolate}

·          Chopped peanuts {optional}

·         Plate

·         Knife

·          Spoon

Directions:

1.       Set materials on the table.

2.      Pour some dipping chocolate into a bowl. 

3.      Have your child count how many chocolate pieces there are.

4.      Once you and your child have practiced counting, melt the chocolate in the microwave for twenty to thirty second intervals.  Be sure to stir in between to keep chocolate from burning.

5.      Now the fun part:  Have your child dip the bananas into the chocolate. 

6.      While the chocolate is still melted, have your child dip the coated bananas into the peanuts.

7.      When finished, lay the bananas on a plate to cool.

8.      Place bananas in the freezer for a few hours until frozen.

9.      Before eating the frozen bananas, ask your child a few questions about what he/she made:

§         How many bananas do you see?  How many peanuts can you see?  What other fruit can we dip with chocolate?

10.  When finished, enjoy the frozen bananas for a fun summer treat! 

Learning Opportunity: 

1. Your child will learn how to make frozen bananas for a summer treat.
2. Your child will practice their coordination while dipping the bananas.
3. Your child will practice their counting and observation skills.

*Stallone Tested and Approved:  Stallone loved making the frozen bananas today.  He enjoyed counting the chocolates and watching the chocolates melt.  He had so much fun dipping the bananas into the chocolate and covering them with the peanuts.  He was really excited to see how the bananas looked when they were frozen and ready to eat.  It was a fun and different summertime treat for him to enjoy today!
